By 7am, Agnieszka was off to her conference and Daniel and the kids were off to the beach. Agnieszka learned about pediatric asthma (not so useful as an adult hospitalist, but still interesting), different modalities of oxygen delivery, and topical analgesics. There was also an interesting forum of ER docs telling stories of memorable and challenging cases.
Daniel and the kids spent the first hour at the beach- Auggie swimming in the water while Ella and Daniel keeping a safer distance just ankle deep in the mild waves. The beach at the resort is protected by a reef, so the waves are minimal. Afterwards, they joined another dad and two kids (mom was at Agnieszka’s conference, too) at the swimming pool, where Ella again attempted to throw herself repeatedly into the deep end.
Agnieszka stopped by during a brief break, hence the pictures. Afterwards, Papa and the kids took a break in the hotel room, before heading out for a stroller walk (and brief nap) for Ella and treasure hunt for Auggie.
When Agnieszka finished the morning conference, she and Auggie went swimming in the ocean and even saw some small fish.
In the afternoon, we left the resort to explore local playgrounds and ponder the idea of moving to Hawaii (alas, though we could find work here, we would not want to move so far away from family).
On the way back to the hotel, we drove by this incredible and majestic tree. This picture doesn’t do it justice.
Back at the resort, there was more swimming before a lovely picnic dinner with Chris, who brought some yummy burritos. The kids were again fading quickly by 6:30, but Auggie rallied when two children on vacation from South Korea asked him to build sand castles with them on the beach. Still, despite our best efforts, both kids were asleep before 7:30.
