June: Auggie starts swim lessons and the blueberries finally rippen

In the beginning of June, Auggie started "real" swim lessons at the nearby swim school in El Sobrante. Canyon Swim School has been teaching swim lessons since 1956 and the original teacher is still there.  (He immediately told us to take Auggie's swim shirt off because it "belonged on a beach" and would weigh him down.)  The school is an unassuming little place, tucked in the back of a small canyon, off a busy road. The fact that they still sell candy and Otter Pops here is reminiscent of the 1980s.

Auggie immediately sensed that this was a more serious lesson than the ones he had been getting at the local community pool and he became nervous.  Fortunately, once he was standing in a line of kids waiting to get into the pool, preschool training took over and he just did what he was told.  Within 5 minutes, he had had goggles placed on his face (he would never let us do that), had been dunked under water, and was holding onto a kick board and kicking his legs.  The lessons were four days in a row, during a week when Agnieszka was off, and Auggie got to leave school early to do them.  Each day, he was nervous but excited at the start and seemed especially proud by the end of the lesson.  When Agnieska asked him if he wanted to sign up for another session, Agnieszka received a very quick and confident "no" followed by a quiet confession that "they are a little too scary".

(Oh yes, and our blueberries finally came in this year! Apparently giving them water helps.)

Waiting to start lessons "It's too scary"

In line with other kids. Ready to go.
