May has been an unusually warm month. Waking up on a Sunday with little planned, except for a family trip to IKEA, we decided to make a last minute, spontaneous trip to the beach. Our neighbors Yoojin, Ken and Yuna, were happy (and patient enough) to join us and suggested going to Alameda beach. Agnieszka had her mind set on going to "the ocean", so we took off for one of the closest beaches, Rodeo Beach. There was some foreshadowing of our adventures to come, as we drove down our hill and could see white caps on the Bay. White caps usually indicate at least 15-20 knot winds. By the time we got to the beach, it was quite clear that "windy" was an understatement. With the hot sun beating down on us and Ella crying in the baby carrier, the adults struggled to put down picnic blankets and shade shelters. Ours was not the simple "pop-up" shelter and required tent poles and instructions. Needless to say, it took 3 adults to secure. The rest of the day was fun (though very windy). Ella stayed sheltered in the warm tent, while Auggie and Yuna had a wonderful time playing in the sand and running away from the waves. By the time we got home, all kids had passed out.
